How to get a Blackboard course for a course

A Blackboard course is created automatically for all courses in OSIRIS. The Blackboard course is automatically created after the course is made final in Osiris, which is on average four months before the start date of the initial block of the course (the date stated in Osiris).

How to get access to a Blackboard course (Solis ID)

All teachers who are listed for a course in Osiris with their Solis ID automatically receive instructor rights in Blackboard.

Request a Solis id

Course or block coordinators can change instructor rights into view-only rights. If you have no rights in a Blackboard course please notify the block or course coordinator who, in consultation with the policy staff member or program coordinator, can see to it that you are added to OSIRIS or to the Blackboard course.

How can students get access?

All students who enroll in a course in OSIRIS automatically gain access to the corresponding Blackboard course.

How to set up a course

To set up your Blackboard course you can use a UMC Utrecht instruction card. Manuals and instruction clips are available on http://blackboard-support.uu.nl.

How to copy last year’s course to this year

Use the UMC Utrecht instruction card. to make a copy of a course that was already set up last year. If you have any questions please contact blackboard@umcutrecht.nl

What is the relationship (or link) between OSIRIS and Blackboard?

OSIRIS and Blackboard are linked to each other. Consequently, the students only have access to the study components in Blackboard for which they are registered in OSIRIS . Course coordinators must also be registered in Osiris with a Solis id for the study components that they wish to view in Blackboard. Teachers can be registered as a user in a Blackboard course via OSIRIS or via the course coordinator. The linking process ensures annually that tens of thousands of applications for Blackboard courses do not need to be entered manually. This constitutes a huge saving as regards administration activities; it can motivate all concerned to do their utmost to support the correct procedure.

More background information on the importance of proper coordination with the study programs and Educational Affairs can be found on the intranet (for staff members only)
